My background

Recent research indicates that the way to keep your brain active, adaptive and mobile (so called 'neural plasticity') is to undertake new challenges, to develop deep interests and to regularly delight in learning new things. I'm very happy about that as I have had several successful careers and have many current interests, including my passionate belief that many people can live fuller lives than they now imagine possible.

I worked for about 10 years at the University of Bristol doing then pioneering information research work on the Internet. I ended up running a research unit with over 70 very bright staff and a number of national and international projects and services. My highlight of this period was being interviewed live on Croatian national television about a "clever banana" - a surreal and treasured moment that still makes me smile as I recall it. It so happens that millions of clever bananas now exist for real, but I can't take any credit for that.

I am fascinated and intrigued by the often overlooked and untapped ability of the human body to influence the mind and vice versa. I have experienced at first hand the very powerful possibilities for change and am happy to be working in such an exciting and rewarding area, offering people something really useful - the ability to unlock more of their own massive potential.

I still also work as a freelance academic researcher, leading international teams on projects for various bodies involved in research, higher and further education.

I have also worked as an actor on street, stage and screen and have run several small businesses. I am involved in community life in a number of ways.

I have studied at the European College of Holistic Medicine in London, gaining a diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, NLP and Life Coaching as well as further study and clinical practice resulting in the award of the Practitioner's Certificate in The Lightning Process™. I also have a number of other graduate and postgraduate qualifications.

My colleague Clare Hudman currently runs Lightning Process courses while I focus on research and coaching individuals in health and happiness.

I am a member of The British Institute of Hypnotherapy (MBIH) and abide by their code of ethics.
