Clare's story

How it started

Back last century (!) I had very bad flu, keeping me in bed for 2 weeks, and as soon as I was on my feet I was back into a full-on life. This was shortly followed by a urinary tract infection and tooth abscess, antibiotics and painkillers. My body was under a lot of stress, not to mention my mind. So when I look back it makes sense that I got M.E. It seemed at the time to arrive suddenly but obviously it had been creeping up on me, probably for decades, as I'd been keeping a lid on my stress for a long time.
At the beginning there was no need to get dressed as I was in bed for 23 out of 24 hours. All that time to myself and I couldn't even enjoy reading or listening to the radio. I did a lot of thinking, some of it useful and much of it not. I progressed to the sofa, to counselling and even sometimes felt a lot better - only to relapse. Hugely disappointing.

The treatment years

I refused anti-depressants, not knowing if I was being foolish, and struggled on, getting small, temporary relief from rest, acupuncture, cranial osteopathy, anti-candida diet (restricting my life even more!), kinesiology and E.F.T. All helped a little but I was very nearly at the bottom of my hope-well and had given up on believing that any treatment could make any significant or long-lasting difference.
Like most of us I got very, very good at managing. I worked my life out around having M.E. - avoiding stairs in particular and preparing for activity by sleeping beforehand. I was bored with the whole thing and didn't like people asking me 'How are you?'. It reminded me of my fibromyalgia and fatigue and just how miserable I was inside. And I knew no-one wants to hear that again and again.

A glimmer of hope

Out of the blue my G.P. friend who I have known since school phoned me up and said she wouldn't have believed it if she hadn't seen it with her own eyes but 2 of her patients, teenagers with severe M.E., were still completely better 6 months after having done the Lightning Process. A 3 day course? Completely better? A little flame of hope ignited amidst the negative thoughts that crowded in, the most virulent one being 'I've probably got a special type of M.E. that it won't work for.' I was able to talk to the mother of the two teenagers, who seemed to be catching up for lost time partying and the like. I didn't really understand what the course was all about but there was no doubting these people were genuine. The hope grew and it was both scary and exciting.

Doing the course

I was curled up under a blanket the first day listening to the theory behind it all, but it was a very different picture the following day. I was sitting up and eager to get the most out of the course. Having done my homework exercises thoroughly the previous afternoon and evening I already had personal positive feedback from my own body and mind. The homework is the key to it and nobody can do it for you but wow! what an incentive when you begin to feel the changes ... and so astonishingly soon.

After the course

Immediately afterwards we went camping for a few days since we were in Wales, and when my partner saw the cliff path to the beach at the campsite, he was all for searching elsewhere. I wanted to stay because I knew I could walk up a cliff path now using the Lightning Process tools that I had learnt. To my partner's astonishment and my pure delight I went bodysurfing and then walked up that cliff carrying my board and the next day I did the same ... and the next! I was dizzy with love for the colours in the world that looked so much brighter. I had literally emerged from a fog.
It took my friends and family a good while to believe I was better. Every time I had doubts I used the Lightning Process. They didn't have that advantage. It took 6 weeks before all my fibromyalgia finally left and I could trust the difference between normal aches after exercise and the unhealthy ache I used to suffer with.

Now and the future

I love the fact that I can play tennis and get a sweat on my back. I can stay out late and get up and function the next day 'normally' tired. I can dance and run and go up and down stairs. I can feel confidence in planning holidays and going to a new place. I can see my parents with an open heart as the adult I am. I can deal resourcefully with a tricky situation that would have paralysed me when I had M.E. I often still do a few minutes of the Lightning Process to help me get into a good frame of mind for something.
I am much, much happier and I want to pass this know-how on to those of you who want similar positive changes in your lives ... we only have this one beautiful opportunity to do what we want with our life.
